- ¡ Ya lo tengo!- gritó Paul. Los animales son bonitos. Todos los días comemos y bebemos leche, huevos, carne, pescado, mantequilla, ...las almohadas de mi cama tienen plumas dentro y algunos animales nos sirven para hacer zapatos, bolsos y abrigos, además los animales nos hacen compañía y pueden ser buenos amigos.
- Pues a mi eso de matar animales para hacer zapatos o abrigos me parece un asesinato, ¡Qué brutos! Los abrigos y zapatos se pueden hacer de otras cosas y así no mataríamos focas, tigres o visones. ¿Sabías que algunos de esos animales están extinguiéndose?

Es verdad- dijo Paul – un poco avergonzado. Pues no sé que más......Tenemos tres razones: nos dan alimento, nos hacen compañía y son bonitos.
- ¡Ya lo tengo! En el colegio estudiamos que algunos animales nos ayudan a los humanos en muchas cosas: hay perros policías, perros que acompañan a los ciegos, halcones que evitan que los pájaros choquen con los aviones, palomas mensajeras, animales que “limpian” el aire como los murciélagos o las arañas que comen insectos; hasta los gusanos de la tierra que fabrican abono.
- ¡pero que lista eres Clara!
- Ya lo sé yo que soy lista. ¡jajajajajajja!
Fueron a ver a su chinchilla y les dieron las 5 razones.
- Felicidades, -dijo la chinchilla-. Os habéis dado cuenta de lo útiles que somos los animales. Desde la Prehistoria hemos estados siempre juntos pero cada vez nos tratáis peor. Muchos animales están desapareciendo por que los cazan y los matan por dinero (leones, ballenas, tigres, elefantes, focas...); otros animales sufren maltratos ( en fiestas de pueblos, donde los persiguen, los asustan y los lanzan cosas como piedras o lanzas), y otros se abandonan cuando se hacen mayores como los perros o los gatos.
Como las razones son buenas cumpliré vuestro deseos.
De pronto todas las jaulas se llenaron. Se empezaron a oír cantos de pájaros y ladridos de perros. Todo había vuelto a la normalidad.
.
- Pero... aún nos queda nuestra familia. ¿qué habrá sido de ellos?
- Tranquilos- dijo la chinchilla-. Tu familia está bien.
Fueron secuestrados por unos ladrones que se los llevaron en una furgoneta. Gracias a mis amigos conseguimos rescatarles:
Avisé a mi amiga cigüeña para que siguiera la furgoneta hasta su escondite. El topo hizo un agujero por el suelo que estaba blando gracias a las lombrices. El búho desde un árbol vigilaba el interior de la casa. El pájaro carpintero hizo un agujero en la madera por donde pudieron salir y regresar encima de una rápidos caballos.
Los ladrones fueron apresados por la policía. Nuestros amigos lobos y leones los vigilaron y no se atrevieron a moverse.
Regresaron a casa y allí se encontraron todos de nuevo
Fueron muy felices todos: humanos y animales y todos aprendimos que los animales pueden ser los mejores amigos.
